Individual Therapy
My approach to counseling centers what matters the most to you, identifying strengths and abilities you’ve used to survive life so far, creating a space where we can safely look at challenges that don’t appear to have easy answers, or fears and pain seem perhaps too much to bear. I see therapy as an interactive, creative process, where my role is to be a mirror of your unique strengths, free from the haze of stigma and shame, expanding your view to recognize in these qualities in yourself, and to see new possibilities for increased safety, fulfillment, and meaning in life.
I aim to be a counselor who is reliably respectful and affirming to all people. I have particular sensitivity of the unique ways religion and spirituality can negatively impact, particularly, yet not exclusive to, people in the queer community. I am familiar with particular challenges facing transgender individuals, both societal and personal (passing, transition, family issues, etc). I am knowledgeable about diverse relationships styles (polyamory, kink/BDSM). I strive to maintain cultural humility, welcoming critical feedback and discussion of social location and power imbalances. One of the my most valued roles as a therapist is assisting clients the process of their self-liberation from internalized oppression, finding a clearer of vision of their strengths, their values, and their right to feel good being exactly who they are, as they are now. With this in my mind, I aim to foster an affirming, respectful space, free of judgment or hierarchy, with mutual collaboration to discover the uncommon wisdom that can reclaim meaning, allow for a more vibrant existence, and add more flexibility to work with whatever life brings.
